The 325,000 square foot LEED Platinum BASF North America Headquarters embodies BASF’s corporate culture: communicate, connect, collaborate, innovate and reduce environmental impacts.Occupied in May 2012, the building will be the largest LEED Platinum commercial building in New Jersey. It will also be the state’s first LEED Platinum Core and Shell (CS) and only double Platinum certified project for both CS and Commercial Interiors (CI).

The design/build teams, including developer The Rockefeller Group, Turner Construction, architectural firms Rotwein and Blake, Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates (KPF), Gensler and LEED consultant Design Management Services (DMS), relied on communication, connection, collaboration and innovation as the fundamental process for achieving these ambitious goals.

At least 20 percent of the materials in the construction of the project contain recycled content and at least 10 percent purchased from local suppliers, reducing the environment impact of long-distance transportation.

FilterPave® porous pavement system used in the walkways are made from 100% post-consumer recycled glass and BASF polyurethane binder. The system reduces stormwater run off and allows water to return to natural aquifers.


Environmental Benefits

Reduces Stormwater Runoff: Twice as porous as other hard-surfaced porous pavements (38 percent void volume) results in a greater reduction of stormwater runoff and better resistance to clogging and maintenance requirements.

Conserves Resources: Comprised of ~9 percent recycled materials, it makes constructive use of abundant materials that are typically landfilled. About 90 beverage bottles are used in just one square foot of FilterPave pavement.

Reduces Site Disturbance: by creating permeable surfaces and natural stormwater detention facilities.

Reduces Heat Island Effect: by creating a cooler surface with a porous pavement system
